Walk the Line

[11-26-05]

This was a really good movie.  I know that’s kind of a weak way to say it but that’s what it was, A REALLY GOOD MOVIE.  I got everything out of it I went there for.  I didn’t really know that much about the “Man in Black” before I went and saw this movie but I think I got an idea about the kind of man he was.  As I said, I don’t know much about Johnny Cash so I can’t tell you how accurate the movie was but it was entertaining as hell.  I would give my left foot to have been in the audience during the one of those Sun Records tours in the 50’s.  I can’t even imagine seeing Cash with Elvis, Jerry Lee Louis and the rest.  As for the acting itself, well I would say I’m ready to watch both Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon win an Oscar this year but that would be lying, I wouldn’t watch the Oscars if my eyes would melt out of my head if I didn’t.  But, back to the point, both their roles were played perfectly.  It felt more like looking into a window into the past than a movie.  You felt as if, somehow, these events were caught on film as they happened instead of recorded decades later with actors.  And speaking of actors, Robert Patrick was dead-on in this movie.  So go see Walk the Line, if not for the story, then for the 20-odd good songs from Cash and others.
